Flexi-MediSave Singapore 2026: Use Up to $400 for Root Canal Treatment and Dental Crowns
Affordable Dental Care for Seniors at MySmile Dental Group
Good oral health is important at every stage of life. As we grow older, our teeth may require additional care to maintain their strength, function and appearance. However, the cost of dental treatment can sometimes be a concern, especially for seniors.
The good news is that Singaporeans aged 60 and above can now use Flexi-MediSave to help pay for selected dental treatments, including root canal treatment and permanent dental crowns.
At MySmile Dental Group, we believe that everyone deserves access to quality dental care. Here’s what you need to know about the Flexi-MediSave scheme, its benefits, eligibility requirements and how it works.
What Is Flexi-MediSave?
Flexi-MediSave is a healthcare financing scheme introduced by Singapore’s Ministry of Health (MOH) to help seniors manage their outpatient healthcare expenses.
Under the scheme, eligible individuals aged 60 and above can use funds from their own MediSave account, or their spouse’s MediSave account if their spouse is also aged 60 and above, to pay for approved treatments.
From June 2026, Flexi-MediSave coverage was expanded to include selected non-surgical dental treatments, helping seniors manage the cost of preserving and restoring their natural teeth.
How Much Can You Claim Under Flexi-MediSave?
Eligible seniors can use up to $400 per calendar year from their available MediSave savings for approved treatments.
Important points to remember:
The $400 withdrawal limit applies per patient, per year.
It is a combined annual limit shared across eligible Flexi-MediSave treatments, not a separate $400 allowance for dental care.
You can use your own MediSave savings or your spouse’s MediSave savings, provided both of you are aged 60 and above.
The actual amount claimable depends on your remaining annual withdrawal limit, available MediSave balance and the treatment’s eligibility.
Any treatment costs not covered by Flexi-MediSave or other applicable subsidies must be paid separately.
Unlike a government cash subsidy, Flexi-MediSave allows you to use your existing MediSave savings to reduce the amount you need to pay out of pocket.
Which Dental Treatments Are Covered?
Under the expanded Flexi-MediSave scheme, eligible seniors may use their MediSave savings for the following treatments:
1. Root Canal Treatment
Root canal treatment is performed to save a tooth when the pulp inside becomes infected or inflamed.
During the procedure, the dentist removes the affected pulp tissue, cleans and disinfects the root canal system, and seals the tooth to prevent further infection.
Benefits of root canal treatment include:
Saving a natural tooth that might otherwise require extraction.
Relieving pain associated with an inflamed or infected tooth.
Restoring oral health and allowing the tooth to remain functional.
Potentially avoiding the need for tooth replacement.
With Flexi-MediSave, eligible seniors may use part of their MediSave savings to offset the cost of approved root canal treatment.
2. Permanent Dental Crowns
A dental crown is a custom-made restoration that covers and protects a damaged or weakened tooth.
Crowns may be recommended for teeth that are heavily filled, fractured, worn down or structurally weakened following root canal treatment.
Benefits of dental crowns include:
Protecting weakened teeth from further damage.
Restoring chewing function.
Improving the shape and appearance of damaged teeth.
Helping preserve natural teeth for longer.
Eligible seniors may use Flexi-MediSave towards approved permanent dental crown treatments, subject to the scheme’s withdrawal limits and conditions.
Who Is Eligible for Flexi-MediSave?
To use Flexi-MediSave for eligible dental treatment, patients must meet the following requirements:
Age requirement: The patient must be aged 60 years or above.
MediSave savings: The patient must have sufficient available MediSave savings, either in their own account or their eligible spouse’s account.
Spouse’s MediSave: If using a spouse’s MediSave, the spouse must also be aged 60 or above.
Approved treatment: The dental procedure must fall within the treatments approved under the scheme.
Participating clinic: Treatment must be carried out at an eligible participating dental clinic or public healthcare institution.
Available annual limit: The patient must have an unused Flexi-MediSave withdrawal balance for the year.
Eligibility and claim approval are subject to prevailing CPF Board and MOH requirements.
Can Flexi-MediSave Be Used Together with CHAS Subsidies?
Yes. Where applicable, eligible patients may benefit from both CHAS dental subsidies and Flexi-MediSave.
The Community Health Assist Scheme (CHAS) provides subsidies for selected dental treatments at participating dental clinics, depending on the patient’s subsidy eligibility.
Flexi-MediSave can then help offset eligible remaining treatment costs, subject to the applicable withdrawal limits.
Example: How Flexi-MediSave Can Reduce Your Dental Bill
Consider an illustrative dental crown treatment costing $900.
| Description | Amount |
|---|---|
| Dental crown treatment | $900 |
| Illustrative applicable CHAS subsidy | −$200 |
| Balance after CHAS subsidy | $700 |
| Flexi-MediSave withdrawal | −$400 |
| Remaining cash payment | $300 |
This is a hypothetical example for illustration only. The actual CHAS subsidy depends on the patient’s eligibility, the treatment and prevailing subsidy limits. The Flexi-MediSave withdrawal assumes that the patient has the full $400 annual limit and sufficient MediSave savings available.
What Dental Treatments Are Not Covered?
Flexi-MediSave does not cover every type of dental treatment.
Routine dental services such as scaling and polishing, ordinary fillings, routine extractions, dentures and cosmetic treatments are not included in the expanded Flexi-MediSave dental benefit.
However, certain dental surgical procedures, such as eligible wisdom tooth surgery or dental implant surgery, may qualify for MediSave claims under separate surgical withdrawal rules.
Our dental team can advise you on the applicable financing options based on your treatment needs.
How to Use Flexi-MediSave for Dental Treatment
Using Flexi-MediSave is straightforward once your eligibility and the clinic’s participation have been confirmed.
Step 1: Arrange a dental consultation
Visit MySmile Dental Group for an assessment of your dental condition. Our dentists will examine your teeth and discuss suitable treatment options.

Step 3: Review your treatment plan and costs

Step 4: Complete the necessary authorisation
If your treatment and clinic are eligible, the necessary MediSave authorisation and claim documentation can be arranged according to the prevailing requirements.
Step 5: Pay any remaining balance
Once the applicable subsidies and approved MediSave withdrawal have been accounted for, you will only need to pay the remaining amount.
Frequently Asked Questions About Flexi-MediSave
1. Can I use Flexi-MediSave if I am below 60 years old?
No. Flexi-MediSave is specifically intended for patients aged 60 and above. However, some dental surgical procedures may qualify for MediSave claims under other schemes, regardless of age.
2. Can I use my children’s MediSave for dental crowns or root canal treatment?
No. Under Flexi-MediSave, eligible seniors can use their own MediSave savings or their spouse’s MediSave savings, provided the spouse is also aged 60 and above.
3. Can I use the entire $400 for one dental treatment?
Yes, potentially. If the treatment qualifies, you have sufficient MediSave savings and your full annual withdrawal limit remains available, you may be able to use up to $400 towards a single eligible treatment.
4. Does the $400 limit reset every year?
Yes. The Flexi-MediSave withdrawal limit applies on a calendar-year basis. Unused withdrawal limits do not accumulate or carry forward into the following year.
5. Can I use Flexi-MediSave for both a root canal and a dental crown?
Yes, if both treatments are eligible. However, the combined Flexi-MediSave withdrawals cannot exceed your remaining $400 annual limit.
6. Is Flexi-MediSave the same as CHAS?
No. CHAS provides government subsidies for eligible healthcare and dental treatments, while Flexi-MediSave allows seniors to use their own or their eligible spouse’s MediSave savings to pay for approved treatment costs.
7. Can I use Flexi-MediSave at any dental clinic?
No. The clinic must participate in the applicable scheme and meet the relevant MediSave accreditation requirements. Always confirm participation with your dental clinic before proceeding.
