Tooth Fillings

What is a tooth filling?

A filling is a procedure to restore the tooth that has been damaged by decay back to its standard form. It’s also meant to prevent further decay from happening to your tooth.

What types of tooth filling are there?

There are generally three types of fillings:

  • Ceramic
  • Composite resin (tooth-coloured fillings)
  • Amalgam (an alloy of mercury, silver, copper, tin and sometimes zinc)

How long do fillings last?

Typically, when well-maintained, dental fillings last around 7-10 years. Other factors that could influence its lifespan include eating habits, dental hygiene, tooth trauma, and teeth grinding.

Do dental filling treatments hurt?

You may experience some tooth sensitivity in the days following the treatment, but if it worsens, you may come back for a consultation with your dentist.

Can I eat and drink after my dental filling treatment?

Yes, you can. But we recommend waiting 30 minutes after the procedure before eating and drinking.

What happens if my tooth filling drops out?

Don’t worry, simply contact the clinic and your dentist will fix it for you. Until then, try to keep the area clean and limit chewing on the affected area.

FAQ about Tooth Filling

If a tooth cavity is too serious, treatment options depend on the extent of the decay. For severe cases, a root canal may be necessary to remove infected pulp and restore the tooth’s function. If the tooth cannot be saved, extraction might be required, followed by replacement options like dental implants, bridges, or dentures

$90 – 250 (before GST) per tooth

A dental drill will be used to remove the decayed portion of the tooth. The cavity is then cleaned, and filled with a suitable material such as composite resin or amalgam. Finally, the dentist shapes and polishes the filling to ensure it fits comfortably and restores the tooth’s natural function.

Yes, fillings are generally covered by CHAS subsisdies and Insurances
