Gum Treatment Services

What is gum treatment?

Sometimes, there’s a buildup of plaque and bacteria around your teeth that may lead to gingivitis which is the inflammation of your gums. Gum treatment allows us to do a deep cleaning of that area to prevent further damage to the surrounding teeth.

Do gum treatments hurt?

During the procedure, you will be administered local anaesthesia so the procedure itself should not hurt. There will be some numbness from the anaesthesia after the surgery for about 2 hours or more. It’s also common to experience some bleeding and swelling in your gums 3-5 days after the treatment.

What are some post surgery recovery tips?

  • We recommend a soft-foods diet
  • Try to avoid hot food and drinks

How much do Gum Treatment services cost?

Gum Treatment is around $200 – 300 (before GST) per quadrant. This treatment involves a deep cleaning procedure that removes plaque and tartar from above and below the gum line.

What are some signs of gum disease?

Early signs can include:

  • Bleeding gums when brushing, flossing, or eating hard foods
  • Red, swollen, or tender gums that may bleed easily
  • Persistent bad breath or a bad taste in the mouth
  • Receding gums
  • Loose or shifting teeth or changes in bite
  • Pus between teeth and gums
  • Painful chewing or tooth sensitivity

Causes of gum disease and how do I prevent it?

  • Poor Oral Hygiene: Inadequate brushing and flossing allow plaque to build up
  • Smoking or Chewing Tobacco
  • Poor Nutrition
  • Underlying Medical Conditions
  • Genetics

Preventive Measures

  • Brush Teeth Twice Daily
  • Floss Daily

FAQ about gum treatment services

CHAS subsidies can be used for gum treatment. For insurances, the extent of coverage varies by plan and provider. We encourage patients to check with their provider for their coverage.

  • Gentle Brushing – Use a soft-bristled toothbrush and fluoride toothpaste. Brush twice daily with gentle, circular motions to avoid irritating the gums
  • Flossing – Floss daily to remove plaque and food particles between teeth. If traditional flossing is challenging, consider alternatives like water flossers.
  • Mouthwash – Use an antimicrobial or fluoride mouthwash as recommended the dentist.
