What are dentures?

Dentures are artificial teeth that are removable and are used to replace teeth that are missing.

What types of dentures are there?

There are three types we have in our clinic:

• All plastic/acrylic dentures – these are the simplest to make to ensure a confident smile
• Flexible acrylic dentures – as the name suggests, they are flexible and will move along with your jaw when chewing for comfort when eating
• Cobalt-chrome dentures – made from a strong and tough material, these dentures last longer and offer the most secure fit

What are the benefits of dentures?

Not only can dentures restore a confident smile, they can also help to improve speech as well as allow more comfort when chewing and eating.

What are the risks involved?

Properly maintained and fabricated dentures are safe for everyday use. Should your dentures show signs of damage or cracking, they need to be assessed, as lose or broken dentures can be a choking hazard. Proper home-care of dentures is also important to prevent microbial build-up and growth on the dentures, which may lead to ulcers and gum irritation.
