What are metal braces?

Metal braces are a popular and effective orthodontic treatment for straightening teeth. They consist of metal brackets attached to each tooth, connected by a thin wire. The wire is adjusted periodically to apply pressure, gradually shifting the teeth into alignment. Rubber bands may also be used to correct bite issues. Metal braces are suitable for various dental problems, including crooked teeth, overcrowding, and misalignment. Though they are the most visible type of braces, they are durable, reliable, and provide consistent results. Due to their effectiveness, metal braces are commonly used for both children and adults.

At MySmile Dental, we aim to make dental care affordable, including our competitively priced braces. FAQ about Dental Braces Service in Singapore

How long does treatment take?

Braces treatment generally take 2 years. The exact duration will depend on each individual’s complexity.

In most cases, braces are not covered by government subsidies and insurances as they are aesthetic treatments. However, some private/company plans may provide partial coverage. We encourage patients to check with their insurance provider for specific details.

Yes, it is normal to experience discomfort. Your teeth may feel “sore” the first few days after putting on your braces and when you come in for your monthly review. This discomfort arises from the gentle pressure exerted by the wires as they gradually move your teeth into their ideal positions. Typically, this soreness subsides within a few days. To alleviate discomfort, over-the-counter pain relievers, soft foods, and cold beverages can be helpful.

We suggest avoiding certain foods that may cause the metal brackets to dislodge or deform the wire. These include hard, chewy, sticky, crunchy foods. (Eg. Nuts, Caramel, Popcorn, Ice, Corn on the cob)
