What is an implant surgery?

A dental implant surgery involves replacing tooth roots with a small titanium screw, and replaces damaged or missing teeth with artificial ones. Implants can also be used as an attachment or support for dentures when all teeth are missing. A 3-dimensional CT scan is required to assess the volume and quality of bone. If the results show that you have insufficient bone volume, you may require an additional procedure called bone grafting.

Can anyone get a dental implant?

Generally, patients with a history of critical medical conditions requiring long-term medication that affects the jaw bone are advised not to opt for dental implants.

Will it hurt?

It’s normal to experience some bruising and swelling around the affected area, but we’ll prescribe you with painkillers and anti-swelling medication to help alleviate the condition. You are also advised to avoid any hot foot/drinks after the surgery, and take soft foods if possible.

How much do dental implants cost?

This will depend on the complexity of your dental condition, but prices will vary between $2,699 to $3,500 on average. If you’re a Singapore resident, you may also use your Medisave to offset up to $1,250 of the total cost.
