Is it normal to experience discomfort after getting metal braces?

Yes, it is normal to experience discomfort. Your teeth may feel “sore” the first few days after putting on your braces and when you come in for your monthly review. This discomfort arises from the gentle pressure exerted by the wires as they gradually move your teeth into their ideal positions. Typically, this soreness subsides within a few days. To alleviate discomfort, over-the-counter pain relievers, soft foods, and cold beverages can be helpful.

Can I eat normally with metal braces?

We suggest avoiding certain foods that may cause the metal brackets to dislodge or deform the wire. These include hard, chewy, sticky, crunchy foods. (Eg. Nuts, Caramel, Popcorn, Ice, Corn on the cob)
