Do I need dental crowns?
A dental crown is a tooth-shaped “cap” that is placed over a tooth. It covers the tooth and helps restore its shape and size to improve its appearance. They are also much stronger than fillings and less likely to come loose or require repairs.
Your dentist may recommend a dental crown in the following situations:
- Cracked teeth – Dental crowns would hold together parts of the cracked tooth to prevent further worsening of the crack.
- Badly decayed teeth – Teeth with large fillings are more prone to fracture and crowns helps to brace and protect them. This increases the longevity of the tooth.
- Misshapened or severely discolored teeth – Crowns can make a cosmetic modification in certain cases
